The Foundation's Local Initiative Funding Partners Program, a matching grants program, was designed to establish partnerships between the RWJF and local grant makers in support of innovative, community-based projects that improve health and health care for underserved and vulnerable populations. Madre Angela Dental Clinic began as a limited oral health care service for homeless and impoverished people in Milwaukee. A collaboration of volunteer dentists, students, and staff expanded the program from merely extracting decayed teeth to restoring smiles and self-esteem for individuals whose teeth were missing. The purpose of this grant is to enable them to address three additional needed areas: urgent care, restorative care, and pediatric dental care and sealants. The funding partners include: Milwaukee Mutual Foundation, Northwestern Mutual Foundation, St. Luke's Medical Center, and Milwaukee Area Health Education Center.
