This grant provides partial support for a conference on the challenges of providing care for patients in nursing home facilities. Although the percentage of aged Americans residing in nursing homes has declined slightly in recent years, the rapid growth of the population 85 and older creates the demand for increased nursing home care in the future. Florida State University in collaboration with the National Institute on Aging's Behavioral and Social Research Program has gathered a distinguished interdisciplinary group of scientists currently conducting research on nursing home care in the continuum of long-term care. Research papers addressing the concerns facing family members, care providers, and policy makers will be disseminated to the scientific community shortly after the conference. The conference is scheduled for March 20-21, 2002, at the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
