Community indicators provide a strong foundation upon which to monitor social progress and assess community health and well being in a way that can capture the interest, not only of policy makers, but also of thousands of citizens who want to participate in improving the quality of life in our society. The Health Research and Education Trust is collaborating with the Fordham Institute for Innovations in Social Policy to make the reporting and public debate of social indicators as common and as useful as it is for economic indicators. This grant provides support for the convening of a National Forum for Advancing Social Indicators. Key officials will be convened to strategize and explore ways to create an organizational framework around social indicators measurement and make recommendations for further work. This project will be considered successful if a core set of indicators are developed and institutionalized and the recommendations from published proceedings that result from this conference provide national visibility for social indicators measurement.
