The Child Health Institute of New Jersey (CHINJ) was founded in 1998 under the leadership of the Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Medical School. Its purpose is to conduct research into the fundamental processes determining human growth and development (genetic and environmental) and how disorders in those processes are expressed in childhood disease. Pediatric care at the RWJ Medical School campus is being considerably enhanced by the presence of the new Children's Hospital, including an added pavilion. The role of the RWJ Medical School in advanced care for children, however, depends essentially on the research capacities of its faculty. For this reason, the Foundation became a founding supporter of CHINJ. For CHINJ to become fully operational, however, a modern laboratory facility is essential. This grant provides support for construction to begin.
