Developing effective models of school-based health programs

The purpose of this project is to develop the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools to provide technical and communications assistance to school-based health centers already in the field and to explore approaches to include mental and dental health care. The dental demonstration model will include a school-based dental sealant program; comprehensive school-based dental treatment facilities providing a range of screening, preventive services and restoration; and a school-community partnership. Mental health models will include: (1) the use of evidence-based risk reduction programs integrated into school-health activities; (2) models for mental health delivery that involve closely integrated school, community, and school-based health centers partnerships; and (3) the implementation of a CQI program that targets behavioral and mental health sentinel conditions for intensive follow-up.
