There is a need for the residents of Durham Central Park, an historic yet neglected area of downtown Durham, North Carolina, to promote better health and well being among themselves. In addressing these needs, the residents recognize the value of socialization, recreation, and of regular, moderate, physical activity in the overall health and well being of each individual. The purpose of this project is to evaluate baseline fitness levels as well as the barriers and limitations felt by residents to participating in regular moderate activity. Programs will then be constructed making physical and environmental changes to the neighborhood that will encourage residents to participate in sponsored friendly activity.
