A census of adult day centers was last done in 1989 and showed there were approximately 2,100 centers. While today there are informed estimates about the number (estimated at 4,000), locations and types of centers, no solid data exists. The purpose of this project is to conduct a new census of adult day centers to gather information about location, number and type of people served, services offered, licensure/certification status, staffing, referral sources, and financial data. New and accurate data will help: (1) inform Foundation programmatic work; (2) provide baseline information to policy makers regarding the state of community-based services; and (3) assist state and national organizations in reaching centers for education and advocacy efforts.
