Regional conference on substance abuse practice and research integration

The first National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)-supported regional conference on Substance Abuse Practice/Research Integration will be held on November 1-2, in Los Angeles, California, with an anticipated attendance of 600 to 800 people. It is anticipated that one outcome of the November conference will be the establishment of the Southern California Bridging the Gap Workgroup designed to promote and expand linkages between university-based researchers and community-based service providers. As it presently stands, estimates are that it will be necessary to charge a $60 to $75 registration fee since there are a number of items NIDA cannot pay for. For many of the intended participants--counselors and other line staff from treatment programs--this amount is a significant expense. Foundation funding will allow for a reduction in the registration fee to $20 to $25 per participant.
