There is compelling evidence that American business is significantly impacted by alcohol and drug misuse and abuse. Alcoholism alone accounts for 500 million lost workdays per year. The purpose of this project is to increase employer awareness about alcohol and drug abuse, stimulate employer leadership in developing workplace and community action, and promote health healthy behaviors around reducing alcohol and drug abuse. The activities will include broad-based employer education including media coverage, individualized consultation with employers, development of criteria and guidelines for best practices, stimulation of prevention partnerships among employers, health systems, and communities.
