Expanding the new genetics: Interactive courseware for physicians

A major theme of the Foundation's exploratory work in genetics is education of health professionals. The Department of Energy's Human Genome Project funded Stanford's Center for Biomedical Ethics in multiple phases to develop an interactive course for physicians on genetics. Unfortunately, due to budget restrictions some valuable aspects of the course had to be dropped. The purpose of this grant funding is to restore those elements to the CD-ROM courseware including: (1) an introductory course with case studies on genetic testing; (2) additional animations; (3) an independent evaluation of the course by physicians; (4) an expanded (self) testing module; (5) a Web site to house updates and supplements; and (6) creation of a printed workbook to accompany the course.
