Evaluation of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholars in Health Policy Research

The Foundation's Scholars in Health Policy Research Program was designed to provide postdoctoral training targeted to the most promising graduates of programs in the three disciplines of economics, political science, and sociology to advance their involvement in health policy research.This grant provides funds to evaluate the progress and early outcomes for Scholar alumni in two areas: contributions to health policy and impact on their home disciplines of economics, political science, and sociology. The evaluation will take 10 months so that ample time will be available for internal discussions of RWJF stakeholders prior to a request to reauthorize the program. The evaluation will employ both quantitative and qualitative methods and will be conducted by John L. Palmer, Ph.D., Dean of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University. Working with Dr. Palmer will be Judith Feder, Ph.D., a veteran policy analyst in the Washington, D.C., area. For the evaluation, it will be important to establish: (1) the prevalence and overall extent of influence and of promise for influence; and (2) productivity and quality associated with the Scholarship experience.
