The influence of early childhood experience on children's health and psychological development is widely recognized. This grant supports an evaluation of Born to Learn, an early childhood parent education and family support program designed to empower parents to give their children the best possible start in life. The randomized, controlled study will recruit parents of infants up to six months of age who live in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, to participate in the study for the child's first three years of life. Both program implementation and key outcomes for parents and children will be carefully monitored. The study will provide critical information regarding the efficacy of early childhood interventions and will serve as a model for the evaluation of early childhood intervention programs in community settings nationwide.
