Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care peer-to-peer workgroups
The Foundation's program, Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care, was designed to foster long-term changes in health care institutions to substantially improve care for dying persons and their families.Under this grant support, the National Program Office for Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care will convene expert workgroups to develop strategies to expand the application of palliative care to: (1) various heath care settings; (2) patients with diagnoses including those where palliative care practice is still in its infancy; and (3) underserved populations. Workgroups will convene around selected topic areas such as: promoting palliative care in intensive care units and nursing homes; advancing the practice of palliative care for patients with diseases such as amyotropic lateral sclerosis, end-stage renal disease, HIV/AIDS, dementia, and Huntington's disease; and increasing access to palliative care for minority populations including Native Americans.
