This grant supports the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in hosting an interdisciplinary research effort to synthesize existing knowledge and to identify potentially breakthrough technologies for behavior change in substance abuse. This effort follows a Sundance conference to foster interdisciplinary science-based approaches to substance abuse prevention. A group of investigators who represent differing research approaches and disciplinary perspectives will collaborate as a "Special Study Group" to identify practical prevention goals and strategies based on an understanding of commonalties across inter-related deviant behaviors. The Study Group also will address the disconnect between experimental findings and the adoption of those findings to widespread treatment and prevention initiatives.
