This grant provides support for the New England Regional Public Health and Managed Care Collaboration, a partnership among New England's managed care leaders, public health commissioners, and the Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (New England Region). The purpose of this project is for the Collaboration to: (1) harness the strengths and knowledge of public health and managed care organizations in applying prevention and population-based health care to improve the health status of managed care enrollees and the broader community; (2) develop joint activities; (3) strengthen public/private partnerships; and (4) share best practices. Outcomes for this initiative include the creation of an ongoing collaborative forum for public health and managed care leadership to discuss and take action on pressing health care system issues which affect the health, safety, and well being of enrolled members and the population as a whole; and measurable improvements in the health status of the communities in the areas of adult immunization, asthma, and tobacco control and prevention.
