The purpose of this project is to review the current status of the availability and content of managed care education for nurses and to identify models of managed care education for nurses from information gathered via surveys, phone interviews, and a site visit. Project activities will: (1) develop criteria to conduct semi-structured interviews to identify model managed care curricula in three domains (selected schools of nursing, selected sponsors of continuing education for practicing nurses, corporate universities operated by selected managed care organizations and MCO/AHC partnerships); (2) customize the Physician Managed Care Educational Needs Assessment Tool; (3) assess the current need for managed care education for nurses; (4) identify and describe models of managed care education for nurses from interview and survey results, the literature, and a site visit to the Henry Ford Health System Managed Care College; (5) identify and describe barriers to providing managed care education for nurses; and (6) suggest strategies for enhancements and/or replication of promising models of managed care education for nurses.
