The purpose of this project is to establish a series of twelve media briefings on health issues over a two-year period for the working members of the press corps in Chicago and nearby Midwestern cities and towns. Through these briefings, the Foundation will: (1) promote its grantees and their work; (2) communicate its commitment to improving health and health care for all Americans; (3) improve the quality of health reporting by educating members of the press corps, especially writers for health trade journals in Chicago; (4) enhance its relations with the press by consistently convening leading journalists and experts as both panelists and attendees; and (5) encourage journalism students to pursue careers on the health beat.
