The purpose of this project is to assess access to care for dual eligible Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries who include a disproportionate share of individuals coping with chronic diseases and impairments. This 18-month research project will analyze needs for care, access to care, coordination of care, perceptions of care, family financial burdens, and the relationship between those dimensions and state policies on dual eligible beneficiaries. A special aspect of this study is its focus on access to a broad range of services, not merely physician services. It will provide information that could inform efforts of the Foundation and others to develop programs to better coordinate and manage services for the dual eligible populations. This project is being funded jointly by the Commonwealth Fund and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, Department of Health and Human Services.
