The Foundation's program, New Jersey Health Initiatives, was designed to support projects in New Jersey that develop new approaches to resolving the state's health care needs, focusing on the Foundation's goal areas. This musical theater arts project -- written and produced for children by children and adolescents -- is designed to deliver a clear message to inner-city children and adolescents about preventing substance abuse. Developed in collaboration with nonprofit organizations in Elizabeth, Newark, and Plainfield, this project will reach out to youth ages 8 to 18, and provide substance abuse prevention education through theater arts workshops and performances in these areas. Once implemented and tested, this project may be adopted by school districts around the state and beyond as an effective substance abuse prevention strategy.
