The purpose of this effort is to help create and support a Health Privacy Project that will produce technical assistance materials relating to patient privacy and confidentiality in order to assist consumer and patient organizations, managed care plans, health providers, and policy makers develop policies and models. The Health Privacy Project will undertake four activities: (1) articulation of "best principles" of promoting patient privacy and confidentiality; (2) identification of "best practice" models in various health settings; (3) compilation of existing state privacy laws; and (4) creation of a Privacy Working Group to identify issues, innovations, and areas needing further examination.
