Urban Health Initiative: Working to Ensure the Health and Safety of Children

The Foundation's program, Urban Health Initiative: Working to Ensure the Health and Safety of Children, was designed to work closely with five cities for a period of up to ten years in an effort to improve the health and safety of their young people.Richmond offers a unique and potentially nationally significant approach to improving the health and safety of young people through a regional partnership led by the organized business community. The Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce is the policy and organizing home for this effort which is focused on "strengthening families," specifically by preventing teen pregnancy, reducing non-marital births, and supporting single-parent families and establishing a strong educational foundation by ensuring children read by the third grade.
