The Foundation's program, New Jersey Health Initiatives, was designed to support projects in New Jersey that develop new approaches to resolving the state's health care needs, focusing on the Foundation's goal areas.This project will expand the services of St. Columba Health Center, in Newark, to include primary pediatric and adolescent care to be provided by nurse practitioners. Through a collaborative practice agreement, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and University Hospital will promote child health in the management of common acute and chronic health problems, immunization and screening programs, and referrals for management of complex conditions. In addition, the project will focus on adolescent pregnancy prevention, parenting skills education, and information on family planning and sexually transmitted diseases. An adolescent pregnancy program will also be established to identify pregnant teens and enroll them in prenatal care.
