Turning Point: Collaborating for a New Century in Public Health

The Foundation's program, Turning Point: Collaborating for a New Century in Public Health, was designed to transform and strengthen the public health infrastructure so that states, local communities, and their public health agencies may respond to the challenge to protect and improve the public's health in the 21st century. The Alaska Public Health Improvement Partnership (APHIP) will engage Alaska's diverse and rural communities in strategic action planning designed to increase the level of community awareness and understanding of the critical health problems facing local citizens. The primary goals are to: (1) develop and initiate the APHIP; (2) develop a vision of the ideal public health system and assess the current public health system; (3) identify the appropriate public health system structure and capacities for Alaska; and (4) develop specific strategies for achieving the required changes.
