This grant provides partial support for two cross-disciplinary sessions organized for "Physical Activity Interventions," an American College of Sports Medicine specialty conference to be held on October 19-21, 1997, at The Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas. Key topics include: Early School to College: Targeting Children to Young Adults, and Physical Activity Interventions in Healthcare. Each topic will address the potential public health impact, effectiveness, replication, and cost-effectiveness of physical activity interventions; and examine the relation of physical activity to other health behaviors, including as a protective factor against youth substance abuse. Conference paper reprints and the production of a manuscript on conference proceedings will be published as a supplement or special issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
