Planning the establishment of a center for state health policy in New Jersey

Although the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation became a national philanthropy in 1972 and has operated on a national scale since then, it also has continued funding a limited number of local institutions and projects in the New Brunswick area and throughout New Jersey. It does so in part to honor the legacy of its founder, and in part to recognize the special responsibilities to the communities and the state in which it is located. The grant supports planning activities directed towards the establishment of The Center for State Health Policy at Rutgers University. The Center will draw on Rutgers' wide range of resources to focus on state health policy from a variety of perspectives: economic, social, political, legal, clinical, and ethical. The Center will have the following key functions: (1) identify health policy themes across states and within selected states with a focus on New Jersey; (2) collaborate with national and state organizations (Governors' Association, Association of State Legislators, Alpha Center) in defining key state health issues and needs and formulating appropriate responses; (3) provide responsive policy/technical assistance; and (4) disseminate research and information.
