To date, treatments for chronic obesity have proved disappointing. The investigators have developed a research model that uses a network of commercial, community-based weight loss centers to test new interventions for obesity and other chronic diseases. This grant supports a pilot study to assess the feasibility of this model. The investigators will: (1) develop, implement, and evaluate training, recruitment, and data collection/management procedures; (2) assess the impact of the trial on site functioning and revenues; and (3) evaluate the time and cost involved in trial implementation. Results from the feasibility study will be used to secure support from other sources to replicate this research model in the conduct of a variety of clinical trials in varied commercial and noncommercial community-based weight loss centers.
