The Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program was designed to augment clinical training by providing new skills and perspectives necessary to achieving leadership positions both within and outside the walls of academia in the 21st century. This grant provides technical assistance and direction for the Foundation's Clinical Scholars Program (CSP). First authorized by the Trustees in 1972, the Program was most recently reauthorized in October 1992 for ten additional years beginning July 1, 1995. The Program is designed to allow young physicians committed to clinical medicine to acquire new skills and training in the nonbiological sciences important to medical care systems. The Clinical Scholars Program had been administered within RWJF since 1978. However, in July 1996, the National Program Office (NPO) was established at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. The NPO will assist the seven institutions participating in the CSP in the recruitment of Scholar candidates and provide administrative support to the National Advisory Committee in selecting Scholars for appointment and in monitoring their progress.
