Dissemination of a study on worksite prevention of alcohol problems

This grant supports dissemination of findings from the "Worksite Prevention of Alcohol Problems" study co-funded by the Foundation and the National Institute of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse. Study findings contradict commonly held beliefs of corporate executives upon which current corporate alcohol policies (focusing on case finding and treatment for alcoholics) are based. The dissemination effort will have two major objectives: (1) to raise awareness among corporate policy makers and practitioners that current corporate alcohol policies and practices may not be achieving intended goals; and (2) to encourage a shift from targeting problem drinkers by identifying and referring them solely through employee assistance programs to expanding worksite alcohol education/intervention programs to target all workers who drink. The four-phase plan will involve message development, generating a model policy and workplace strategy, producing print materials, and broad national dissemination through a variety of mechanisms.
