This project will link the Family Friends Program with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) program for the Prevention of Teenage Pregnancy. Family Friends, a program of the Intergenerational Office of the National Council on the Aging, Inc. (NCOA) has, for the past ten years, matched its volunteers with families of children with disability, the rural poor, families in homeless shelters, and families with HIV-positive babies. This program has demonstrated conclusively that these groups of volunteers have provided an invaluable resource wherever they have operated. Both Family Friends and CDC are operating programs in the same cities. The project will involve linking up the two programs on a demonstration basis in the following cities: Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Kansas City, Missouri; and San Antonio, Texas.
