Health and Behavior: Research, practice, and policy

The purpose of this project is research designed to: (1) update scientific findings about the links between health and behavior; (2) identify and review effective applications of behavioral techniques in a variety of settings; (3) identify the factors that enhance the implementation of behavioral interventions, including guidelines for providers; (4) review evidence of intervention cost-effectiveness; and (5) make recommendations concerning further research, the development of best practices, and financing policy. Project activities will include: meetings of a 15-member study committee; workshops for experts in the field; commissioned papers; and liaison panels comprised of representatives from provider groups, academic health centers, professional organizations, and other interested parties. A report outlining the committee's findings will be widely disseminated through briefings, professional presentations and articles, and via the Internet.
