National Basketball Association program to educate youth about the health risks of tobacco use

This contract provides funding to the New Jersey Nets organization of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to develop a educational and marketing campaign to help prevent smoking among young people. . The initiative will include: (1) a program, developed by the Nets and New Jersey Breathes, to encourage schools and community groups in the New Jersey area to undertake efforts to keep their schools and their communities smoke free; (2) an aggressive marketing and media campaign designed by the Nets and New Jersey Breathes to send a strong "no tobacco use "message that will reach New Jersey families, national television audiences and basketball fans throughout the U.S; and (3) a concerted and sustained effort by the New Jersey Nets organization to remove tobacco advertising from the Continental Airlines Arena (home to the Nets, the New Jersey Devils hockey team and to other major sporting and entertainment events) and to work with other NBA teams and NBA management to initiate a "no tobacco use" program throughout the league.
