Expanded analysis of health and sociodemographic factors in urban areas

The purpose of this project is to develop a report comparing the social health status of those living in the nation's largest central cities with those in the surrounding suburbs. NPHHI will create a chartbook profiling health, economic, and demographic variables for counties surrounding the country's largest 100 cities. This information will then be integrated with the updated statistics from the central cities. NPHHI's previous report, Urban Social Health, represented the first major attempt to profile cities across a broad array of health, economic,and social indices. To better understand how these different factors interact in the causation of social health problems in urban areas, this aggregation of information is critical. The comparison of city/county information will provide a unique base of information that can be used to address the growing isolation in the country around socioeconomic status. Isolation is frequently identified as a contributor to the lack of political will that will be necessary to make progress on these problems.
