Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's State Coverage Initiatives program

The Foundation's program, State Coverage Initiatives, was designed to help states develop and implement policies that expand access to health insurance coverage. The purpose of this project is to renew the technical assistance and direction activities provided by the Alpha Center under the Foundation's State Coverage Initiatives program. Under this renewal, the Alpha Center will work with up to 18 grantees funded under the program as well as continue serving as a Technical Resource Center for all 50 states. The Alpha Center serves as the national program office providing overall program management and coordinating all technical assistance provided under the program. Specific activities funded under this grant include the following: (1) Conduct grant prospecting and review process for new applicants. (2) Monitor grantee progress. (3) Provide technical assistance to grantee and nongrantee states by assessing technical assistance needs of individual states, providing direct consultation to individual states, and developing and conducting individual state policy retreats to help states develop strategies; (4) Develop technical products such as issuing monographs and developing state-level data resources and making them available to states via electronic network. (5) Convening national conference of grantees, national conference on specific state policy issues, and group consultations for states on technical issues. (6) Write and publish quarterly newsletter, disseminate technical products series, and presentations and briefings. (7) Provide electronic resources through expansion and maintaining web site and state policy bulleting board system, and preparing and posting monthly updates on state activities.
