Improving the oral health of Amish children

The Foundation's Local Initiative Funding Partners Program is a matching grants program designed to establish partnerships between the Foundation and local grantmakers in support of innovative, community-based projects that improve health and health care for underserved and vulnerable populations. This is a project to provide services to a large underserved and uninsured population of Amish children in rural Indiana. These children suffer significant and untreated dental disease due to limitations in access, dental health education, and flouridation. During the three-year grant, they expect to provide dental services to approximately 480 Amish community members in 24 outreach clinics, and develop an oral flouride rinse and dental education program in 25 Amish schools.
