The Foundation's program, Colleagues in Caring: Collaboratives for Nursing Work Force Development, was designed to support nursing service institutions to initiate concerted work force development systems within their regions.California Colleagues in Caring (California Strategic Planning Committee for Nursing-CSPCN) is a consortium of over 30 representatives from state regulatory and health planning agencies, nursing organizations, health care organizations, and nursing education groups committed to the strategic planning process. This project extends the CSPCN work force initiative that began with database development into the critical strategic planning phase. CSPCN expects to accomplish the following: (1) identify areas of discrepancy in supply and demand for nurses and make recommendations to achieve supply goals; (2) recommend a strategic planning agenda for enhancing the ethnic diversity and cultural competence of California's nursing workforce; and (3) make recommendations for statewide policy changes for nursing education as well as plan for the continuation.
