Service Credit Banking in Managed Care Program

The Foundation's Service Credit Banking in Managed Care program was designed to provide technical assistance and information for replication of service credit banking programs and demonstrate the feasibility of establishing a financially self-sustaining project within a managed care organization.Service Credit Banking is a system wherein volunteers earn credits for providing supportive services to frail elderly and disabled persons. These credits can be redeemed at a later date when services are needed by the volunteers themselves. This project will work cooperatively with existing volunteer programs, building upon the success and strengths of the Group Health Home and Community Volunteer Services and other volunteer programs of the Division of Community Health and Long-Term Care, including the Group Health Hospice Program and Bereavement Services. Services will include homemaker assistance, home maintenance tasks, transportation and escort service, respite, and telephone reassurance. Anticipated outcomes are more appropriate use of medical services, reduced medical emergencies, and prolonged independence of recipients.
