The Foundation's Home Care Research Initiative was designed for researchers and policy analysts to explore key issues in the area of home and community-based care for the chronically ill.The grant supports technical assistance and direction for the Home Care Research Initiative. It is expected that eight research projects will be funded in each of two funding cycles, with funding for first-round projects to begin in October 1996. During the period of the grant, the Visiting Nurse Service of New York will conduct the following activities: (1) set up and staff the National Program Office; (2) assist Foundation staff in the formulation of the research agenda and key research questions; (3) assist Foundation staff in developing a request for proposals and application materials; (4) convene meetings of the initiative's National Advisory Committee to assist staff in reviewing applications and making grant recommendations; (5) plan and conduct activities designed to develop consensus about what works and does not work in the field of home- and community-based care; and (6) disseminate the findings of the funded research and synthesis/consensus projects
