The Foundation's Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program was designed to provide technical assistance and grant support to help adult day centers develop and strengthen innovative center-based, in-home, and other respite programs for people with chronic cognitive disorders--particularly dementia.The current program of adult day care in Gardiner, Maine, will be extended by adding Saturday hours. A van will be leased and available to clients 6 days per week on a fee-for-service basis. Transportation will also be available one day per week for shopping, doctor/dentist appointments, and outings. An informational phone line will be established for families and other caregivers. A marketing plan will be implemented using print, radio, and public relations, as well as a community and public education program. It is anticipated that the program will increase its enrollment to 30 in year 1 and to 50 in year 2.
