The Foundation's Information for State Health Policy was designed to improve the capacity of state health statistics systems to support health policy making and program management.Of the 10 states awarded Phase I planning grants, North Carolina is one of 7 selected to receive Phase II implementation funds. Under Phase II of the Program, states will undertake and monitor data system improvements, using the implementation plans developed during Phase I, and focusing on the high priority needs identified in the planning phase. A report on each project's accomplishments will be submitted to the Foundation, along with a public-use data tape that includes the data files and fields used to address the identified policy issues. Projects are expected to be self-supporting by the end of Foundation funding and could serve as models for other health policy areas and for other states. In addition, projects will improve the accessibility of state-level data for analysis by public- and private-sector researchers.
