Evaluating RWJF's replication programs

There exists both the opportunity and the need to determine how best to replicate successful program innovations. There are now a sufficient number of replications in health and human services to support an evaluation--to ask questions about the logic of replication design, what it offers to the field, how replication efforts address obstructive forces in the environment, and whether or not they are effective. Under this project, a review of the field of program replication will be conducted and Foundation-supported replication efforts will be analyzed. The evaluators will provide recommendations on: (1) structuring demonstrations to minimize the need for replication funding; (2) developing replication strategies that are most productive; (3) understanding the circumstances associated with successful program diffusion; and (4) developing evaluation strategies to inform and support replication. This evaluation will offer timely information on the range of available replication strategies and when to use them.
