The nation's court systems are responsible for overseeing the care of 100,000 to 250,000 elderly and developmentally disabled individuals. This grant provides support to assist courts to strengthen their ability to monitor guardianship and ensure that wards receive adequate care in the least restrictive settings. This community-based project is in the nation's largest retirement community. The principal objectives include: (1) expansion of the program to include the developmentally disabled as well as the elderly; (2) train guardians to use functional assessments, least restrictive environments, and advanced directives; and (3) expand to two contiguous counties.
