The Foundation's SmokeLess States: National Tobacco Policy Initiative is a program that supports development and implementation of comprehensive statewide strategies to reduce tobacco use through education, treatment, and policy initiatives.This grant provides technical assistance and direction for the SmokeLess States Initiative. The principal objectives of the grant are to: (1) assist in developing program brochure and proposal application packets; (2) coordinate activities for the National Advisory Committee; (3) plan and conduct a technical assistance workshop for grant applicants; (4) review proposals and conduct site visits; (5) assist in selecting sites; and (6) coordinate program activity with those of the Office on Smoking and Health and the National Cancer Institute, both of which have major initiatives in state tobacco control either in the planning stage or the early action stage.
