This grant supports a series of in-depth focus groups, supplemented by limited survey research, to determine how the public perceives the current health care crisis, its underlying causes, and the likely implications of reform. Grant funds will also support testing of various approaches to increase public understanding of the issues, including the salience of different approaches for different subgroups of the population. Plans are to conduct two sets of focus group meetings, each set consisting of 5-6 meetings. The first set of meetings, coupled with surveys, will be designed to find out people's perception of the problem and the second set will be organized to test a variety of approaches to correcting misperceptions and enhancing people's understanding. A series of press advisories will be released documenting findings of the first phase of the project, while internal memoranda will be used to inform Foundation staff of the findings from the second phase.
