The Foundation's Generalist Provider Research Initiative was designed to support a series of research projects to identify, analyze, and assess the opportunities and constraints that determine the current generalist/specialist mix and distribution that affect various efforts to generate change.This grant supports technical assistance to the Generalist Provider Research Initiative. During the period of the grant, the technical consultants will assist Foundation staff in: (1) developing research questions to be addressed under the Initiative and recommending research approaches to answer those questions; (2) identifying the most appropriate researchers to conduct selected studies; (3) providing guidance to investigators invited to submit proposals; (4) reviewing proposals; (5) monitoring funded projects; and (6) organizing a meeting for first-year grantees. The consultants have conducted a number of studies on the distribution and specialty mix of physicians and will afford valuable technical assistance to the Initiative.
