Public radio coverage of rural health care news and issues

This grant provides funding to the High Plains News Service to expand its coverage of rural health care news and issues. High Plains serves nearly 50 public and community radio stations in 20 states with news and information. The project is timely as RWJF is preparing to disseminate lessons from its Hospital-Based Rural Health Care Program, and has several policy initiatives underway that are geared to improving rural care delivery. Recognizing that hospitals and health care facilities are going out of business in great numbers in rural areas, media coverage becomes even more important both to cover issues peculiar to rural residents and to increase public dialogue about rural health care solutions. The goal of the project is to increase programming about health care in the regular news programming and to produce a 30-minute radio documentary on health care issues.
