Ladders in Nursing Careers (L.I.N.C.) Program

The Foundation's Ladders in Nursing Careers Program was designed to replicate Project L.I.N.C. which demonstrated an effective strategy to help interested and qualified hospital employees advance into LPN and RN positions at the nursing school of their choice.The grant to the North Dakota Hospital Association is for the planning phase of the replication of Project L.I.N.C. in the western half of the State. Due to the fact that the State is mostly rural, one the targets will be in advancing nurses to nurse practitioners. In addition, the state has a BSN entry requirement for RNs and Associate of Science-Practical Nursing for LPNs; Project L.I.N.C. will assist in the achievement of those requirements. They will also focus on Native Americans, a significant minority in the State who are mostly low-income. To overcome the distance and remoteness involved in the focused area, the grantee may utilize telecommunications in the higher education system. Specifically, over the course of the planning phase, the grantee will form a steering committee; identify participants and other funding sources; designate site coordinators; and develop an implementation proposal.
