The purpose of this project is to increase the number of minority physicians recruited to residency and staff positions at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and to expand the number of minority high school and college students served by the Summer Research Trainee Program and the High School Research Apprentice Program served by the MGH. In 1987, several minority physicians launched a concerted effort to recruit minority house staff and faculty to the MGH and became the Minority Recruitment Committee (MRC). The programs are growing, and an administrative office is needed to provide assistance to the MRC to ensure that the programs are coordinated and information provided to potential participants. In addition, the MRC assistant will develop contacts with other Boston-area teaching hospitals to promote sharing of information and expertise among the various minority recruitment programs. The MGH will provide support to continue the administrative office after Foundation support is completed.
