This grant provides partial support for the initial phase of a project to create and promote the first nutritional label for children. The goal of the label is to teach children ages 6-12 to seek out and use information about the food they eat so they will make better food decisions now and as adults. Nutritional habits established early in life can have a major impact on the development of degenerative diseases in adults including heart disease and cancer. The project will be cooperatively developed with the Food and Drug Administration. Dissemination will occur through a multimedia campaign. As a joint venture between the FDA and the communications industry, this project offers a special opportunity for the Foundation to join in support of an initiative that will have significant impact on the health of American children.
