The Foundation's Summer Medical and Dental Education Program was designed to develop and implement a six-week academic enrichment program for undergraduate college students from minority groups, from rural areas, and from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine or dentistry.This grant supports continued technical assistance and direction for the Foundation's Summer Minority Medical and Dental Education Program under the direction of James R. Gavin, III, MD, PhD. In July 1987, funding of this program was authorized, and its purpose is to increase minority applicant acceptance rates in medical schools by supporting special summer education programs for minority college students.
