Providing technical assistance to governors to enable them to maintain or increase current levels of health insurance coverage

The Foundation's program, State Coverage Initiatives, was designed to help states plan and develop insurance market reforms, Medicaid reforms, and other significant health care financing and delivery changes.The principal objectives of this project are to: (1) disseminate the health care reform options developed by the NGA subcommittee on health; (2) assist states applying for support under the Initiatives; (3) convene national forums to highlight state health care options; and (4) prepare targeted policy papers on the coordination of federal and state health care regulatory actions and federal barriers states may face in implementing specific reforms.
